The Kansas City Royals earned their first victory of the seasonafter five losses Sunday by nipping the visiting Minnesota Twins 2-1behind the hitting of rookie third baseman Phil Hiatt.
Hiatt singled home a run in the second, singled in the fifth andhomered off losing pitcher Kevin Tapani (0-2) in the seventh to breaka 1-1 tie. It was the first career home run for Hiatt, who leads theRoyals with six RBI.
Reliever Tom Gordon (1-0) pitched two innings for the victorybefore yielding to Jeff Montgomery, who got the last six outs for thesave.
